In 2012, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and the Mowat Centre partnered with Leger Marketing to develop  Emerging Stronger 2012 : A Transformative Agenda for Ontario.     Emerging Stronger 2012 identified five priority areas where Ontario’s business, government, and civic leaders should focus their efforts in transforming the province’s economy. As part of NOACC’s “Get Re-Acquainted Tour” (begun after the April 2011 AGM), NOACC President Andy Scribilo and Harold Wilson, COO joined the Red Lake Chamber of Commerce Directors for a fine pizza dinner September 12 for a great discussion on building up membership and momentum.  We all know there is a lot going on in Red Lake, and their Chamber offers the opportunity to engage their business community in moving forward.

  NOACC Welcomes New Chamber Managers  
 
The NOACC Executive would like to welcome Annely Armstrong as the new Manager of the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, Gwen Kurz as the Secretary-Manager of the Dryden District Chamber of Commerce and Carol Leduc as the new Manager of the Kenora & District Chamber of Commerce.   We are looking forward to working with you.     
    

 
Aditya Birla Group Outlines Plans With Terrace Bay Pulp Mill
   
Don Campbell and Barry Streib of Tbaytel invited Harold Wilson to join them at the lively Terrace Bay celebration August 24 of the $250 million investment by the Aditya Birla Group in purchasing their pulp mill. Aditya Birla Group representative Vijay Kaul outlined the plans for the mill, and how Terrace Bay fits into the company's global plans. Harold discussed the impact with Aguasabon Chamber President, Jason Nesbitt at the celebration, which is another recognition of the growth opportunities of the north shore.                    
                                         
               

 
N.W. Ontario Regional Conference - in partnership  with 
NOACC, NOMA & NODN - September 26, 27, 28, 2012
at the Victoria Inn Hotel & Convention Centre in Thunder Bay.

 

Again this year, the conference will tie in with the Thunder Bay Chamber’s Prosperity Northwest (a full day “Business Building Business” event) on Wednesday, September 26 at the Valhalla Inn.  For more information on Prosperity Northwest, visit the Thunder Bay Chamber’s website www.tbchamber.ca .   A Prosperity Northwest After Business networking session will kick off the N.W. Regional Conference on Wednesday, September 26 at 5 pm at the Valhalla Inn. 

 

The Conference promises to be an interesting, informative event with excellent opportunities for networking with business, economic and municipal leaders from across the region.  Each organization will hold a separate session as part of the conference as well.

NOACC Represented at the OCC Evening with the Deputy Ministers
 
June 21, 2012 - It was a pleasure to have representatives from NOACC attend the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) Evening with the Deputy Ministers, held at the Royal York in Toronto. In addition to OCC Director Ian McCormack and Harold Wilson from the Thunder Bay Chamber, Geraldton Chamber President, Eric Pietch and Dave Barker were able to attend and ensure some of our main Northern issues were discussed.
 
The room was engaged by a motivational address by Allan O'Dette, President and CEO of the OCC who singled out and recognized the Geraldton and Thunder Bay Chamber for representing our regional opportunities.
